Joseph Palmieri is a Managing Associate General Counsel in Verizon's Legal Department, and is the head of the patent prosecution group, which is responsible for obtaining patents on Verizon's research and development activities. He also supports Verizon technical teams for intellectual property issues in areas such as technology licensing, standards development and open source software. He has more than 25 years of experience representing small and large companies on IP matters. Joe received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Ayan Afridi partners with Fortune 500 companies and pioneering startups to build, protect, and monetize their intellectual property. His work involves architecting and managing strategic IP portfolios across the consumer electronics, research, and industrial fields. He leads the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications and is often engaged in negotiating software licenses and IP acquisition agreements. Furthermore, he defended client assets in high-stakes disputes by supporting litigation, representing clients in IPR proceedings, and delivering analyses on patent infringement, invalidity, and freedom-to-operate (FTO).
