Join us IN PERSON for our special Pride edition of the June 2022 M3: Members' Monthly Mixer, hosted by SUNY Global and East Midtown Partnership! Don't miss this opportunity to forge meaningful connections with members, corporate partners, and non-profit leaders. This event will include a pre-M3 30 minute panel discussion and 15 min Q &A, followed by a networking reception.
Panel: Don’t Say Gay: The Role of Education & Economics in LGBTQ+ Rights
A huge barrier to LGBTQ+ rights is acceptance by mainstream society. For many years, the movement's answer to that challenge was to encourage discussion of queer families and individuals in media, schools, advertising, and more – hoping that acknowledgment would lead to validation. Today, despite decades of progress, advocates face backlash as some co-opt what was meant to make the children of LGBTQ+ families feel welcome, and others criticize corporations for "pinkwashing" and not doing enough. Having made it from Stonewall to marriage equality, can we overcome the polarization of America?
Moderator: David Belsky, Founder & CEO, Good Rebellion
Confirmed Panelists:
Marion Terenzio, President, SUNY Cobleskill
John Dias, Reporter, CBS New York
Jonathan Lovitz, Public Policy & DEI Advocacy, NGLCC
Chanel J. Lopez, Deputy Director of LGBTQ+ Affairs, Executive Chambers
